Wiedenmann North America was honored recently with the SportsField Management Association’s Innovative Award for the STrac 720 multi-purpose walk-behind turfgrass management power tool. The STrac 720 machine offers interchangeable heads that allow an operator to quickly switch between tasks. Those tasks include fraise mowing, sod cutting, verticutting, high speed coring, seeding and other agronomic practices. The SFMA award singled out the exceptional design of the ST170 fraise mowing head attachment for its compact operation that facilitates level ballfield lips for player safety and consistent ball bounce.

“We were thrilled to win the 2025 SFMA Innovative Award for the STrac 720 interchangeable power tool for sports turf and golf course management. We knew the fraise mower attachment head for the flexible and useful STrac 720 would be a time-saving piece of equipment for any turfgrass manager. The award confirms our dedication to offering the turf industry the latest in forward-thinking equipment that helps golf course and sports field managers do a better job every day,” said Will Wolverton, president of Wiedenmann North America, LLC, based in Savannah, Georgia.

SFMA Past President Sun Roesslein, CSFM, presented the award to Will Wolverton at the association’s national conference held in January in Palm Springs, CA. About The STrac 720 Machine

The STrac 720 is unique in that it does not require a tractor to operate it. The STrac 720 moves as a walk-behind or “pedestrian” self-contained machine. It is used in turf management to perform a full list of tasks that depend on the head attachment affixed to it.

There is a Fraise Mowing head, High Speed Coring head, Sand Injection head, Sod Cutting head, Vibrating Disc Seeding head, Vibrating Dimple Seeding head, Vibrating Spiking head and a Verti-Cutting head, with many other heads in the design phase for this multi-functional machine. With any of the heads affixed, the STrac 720 has a 26-inch working width, a tight turning radius, and is light enough and maneuverable enough for nearly any turf area.

About The ST170 Fraise Mower Head

This ST170 fraise mower head is a nimble, compact attachment that features specifically engineered spiral blades that smooth uneven or unwanted turf areas. For sports turf, the fraise mower head is designed to remove the lip of the infield and outfield lip of a baseball field. The fraise mower option creates a safer playing surface by removing a tripping hazard and leveling the surface. It also reduces the unpredictable bounce of a baseball that can occur when the ball is hit into a lip. The result is a smooth and level transition zone between the infield and outfield. The fraise mower is also suitable for use on golf courses to remove and level targeted turf surfaces.
