Landscaping companies are always looking for ways to grow their business. The goal is to increase sales and improve operational efficiencies. The STrac 720 multi-purpose sod cutter and walk-behind turfgrass management power tool by Wiedenmann gives landscapers the ability to do both. With a machine like the STrac in the crew trailer, landscape and grounds management firms can offer more value-added services at a premium price. Why just offer to install a new yard when your firm could be contracted to remove the old one first? From a business perspective, faster and more efficient fraise (or sometimes spelled fraze) mowing or sod cutting  the old turf (as opposed to manual cutting with a shovel) translates into saved man hours, reduced labor costs, and faster job turntimes with the new sod laid sooner.

More than just a sod cutter, the STrac 720 also has interchangeable heads available (similar to how a power drill has heads for drilling holes or inserting screws). These heads perform many landscaping tasks such as fraise mowing, verticutting, aerifying, and seeding. These value-added services could be offered at a premium to increase sales. Plus, by using a highly efficient machine like the STrac 720, with its interchangeable heads to perform specific tasks, jobs can be completed more quickly and easily.

For landscape firms, maneuvering any piece of equipment through gates and alleys to access backyard lawns and gardens is a frequent concern. The STrac 720 was designed with the needs of the lawncare professional in mind. At only 26-inches wide, it is compact and nimble with a tight turning radius suitable for most any yard.

To aid in maneuverability, the Strac 720’s adjustable wheels can be configured to allow the machine to get close or through natural and manmade obstacles such as flower beds, sidewalks, fences, and gates without damaging them.

The STrac 720 is unique in that it does not require a tractor to operate it. The STrac 720 moves as a walk-behind or “pedestrian” self-contained machine.

Tasks performed by the various interchangeable heads include:

  • Sod cutting

  • Fraise mowing

  • Verticutting

  • High-speed coring

  • Sand injection

  • Vibratory spiking

  • Seeding

  • With more heads in development that aid in other agronomic practices

Wiedenmann’s STrac 720 was recently honored by the Sports Field Management Association (SFMA) when it named the machine its 2025 Innovative Award recipient. The award recognizes innovation in turf management technology.

Wiedenmann’s full line of equipment is available through most John Deere Golf and Turf Dealers and other distributors throughout the United States and North America.
